ในร้านขายของเก่าหัวมุมถนนในกรุงเทพฯ กล่องดนตรีรูปช้างแกะสลักไม้สักกำลังหมุนอย่างนุ่มนวล ในขณะที่เฟืองนาฬิกาเดินประสานกัน ทำนองเพลงสรรเสริญก็ไหลออกมาจากพระเจดีย์สีทองบนหลังช้าง และเท้าของช้างก็เหยียบลงบนจานสีสามสีของธงชาติ ซึ่งเป็นวงแหวนสีแดง ขาว และน้ำเงินที่เรียงซ้อนกันเป็นหนึ่ง ซึ่งกลายมาเป็นรหัสนิรันดร์ของชาติไทย เกียร์สีแดงเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของเลือดที่เดือดพล่าน เช่นเดียวกับการต่อสู้ของชาวสยามเพื่อปกป้องอธิปไตยเมื่อร้อยปีที่แล้ว หลอดสีขาวคือความเมตตาอันเปี่ยมล้นด้วยพระพุทธศาสนาคอยชี้นำสันติสุขในยามสงครามอยู่เสมอ เพลาน้ำพุสีฟ้าเปรียบเสมือนแรงเหวี่ยงเข้าศูนย์กลางของราชวงศ์ ซึ่งเชื่อมโยงดินแดนกว่า 380,000 ตารางกิโลเมตรเข้าด้วยกันอย่างแน่นแฟ้น ช้างที่หามเจดีย์เดินไปข้างหน้าโดยเชิดหัวขึ้นสูง เหมือนกับความพากเพียรของประเทศนี้ในการปกป้องประเพณีของตนท่ามกลางกระแสของความทันสมัย กล่องดนตรีต้องถูกไขลานอย่างต่อเนื่องเพื่อให้ดังไม่หยุด ดังเช่นความเข้มแข็งของคนไทย เมื่อครั้งเมืองถูกน้ำท่วมเมื่อปี 2554 อาสาสมัครก็ประสานแขนกันสร้างกำแพงมนุษย์ ในช่วงการระบาดของโควิด-19 ทั้งประเทศต่างจับมือกันเพื่อส่งต่อความหวัง พลเมืองทุกคนคือเครื่องมือที่มีความซับซ้อนซึ่งสะท้อนถึงเสียงสะท้อนของอารยธรรมในเสียงสะท้อนของ “ชาติ-ศาสนา-ราชา” เมื่อเสียงเพลงค่อยๆ เงียบลง เด็กก็หมุนสปริงอีกครั้ง ในวัฏจักรนิรันดร์นี้ ช้างยังคงเชิดหัวขึ้น เจดีย์ยังคงเปล่งประกายอยู่เสมอ และจานไตรรงค์ยังคงหมุนอยู่ตลอดเวลา เสมือนจิตวิญญาณของชาติที่ไหลไปตามลำน้ำเจ้าพระยา สลักเป็นการเคลื่อนไหวที่เป็นอมตะในเฟืองแห่งกาลเวลา

In an antique shop on a street corner in Bangkok, a teak-carved elephant music box is turning gently. As the clockwork gears engage, the golden pagoda on the elephant’s back flows out the melody of the “Song of the Holy Song”, and the elephant’s feet step on the tricolor disc of the national flag – the red, white and blue concentric rings turn the eternal code of the Thai nation. The red gear symbolizes boiling blood, just like the struggle of the Siamese people to protect their sovereignty a hundred years ago; the white sound tube is the compassion infused with Buddhism, which always guides the direction of peace in the war; the blue spring shaft is like the centripetal force of the royal family, which closely connects 380,000 square kilometers of land. The elephant carries the pagoda and walks forward with its head held high, just like the country’s persistence in protecting traditions in the tide of modernization. The music box needs to be continuously wound up to sound, just like the tenacious character of the Thai people: when the flood flooded the city in 2011, volunteers linked their arms to build a human wall; during the COVID-19 pandemic, the whole nation clasped their hands together to convey hope. Every citizen is a precise gear, resonating the echo of civilization in the resonance of “nation-religion-king”. When the music fades, the child turns the spring again. In this eternal cycle, the elephant still holds its head high, the pagoda is always shining, and the tricolor disc keeps rotating – just like the national soul flowing in the Chao Phraya River, engraving an immortal movement in the gears of time.
